AUK Psychology Launch Day: New Psychological Education According to American Standards

AUK Psychology Launch Day: New Psychological Education According to American Standards

On July 4, American University Kyiv hosted the presentation of a new educational program in Psychology — an innovative, practice-oriented program based on the standards and educational materials of one of the leading higher education institutions in the USA, Arizona State University, the academic partner of AUK.

This event marked the starting point for the launch of an educational program that combines modern academic training, clinical practice, and global experience.

Professor Viktor Burlaka, Director of the Psychology Program, opened the meeting by sharing his vision for the development of psychological education at AUK.

"Ukraine critically needs a modern, resilient infrastructure for psychological support today. At American University Kyiv, we strive to be a part of it — training specialists who combine a scientific approach, practical skills, and values of care and support," noted Viktor Burlaka.

The program's instructors shared their experiences and teaching approaches:

  • General Vladyslav Klochkov, an expert in military psychology;
  • Dr. Natalia Bilevych, a specialist in trauma psychology and veteran support.

Psychologist Yana Horbunova presented the mental health direction at AUK and moderated a deep and meaningful panel discussion titled "Psychology in Action: Education, Practice, Current Challenges."

Panel participants included:

  • Nataliia Yarotska — a mental health expert from the Red Cross of Ukraine;
  • Lyudmyla Hromadyuk — a clinical psychologist and volunteer medic with experience in rehabilitating military personnel and veterans.

The discussion touched upon the most pressing topics:

  • How the role of a psychologist changes during times of war and societal transformation;
  • What skills are becoming key for specialists;
  • How education should be integrated with practice and mental health support.

Psychology program at AUK offers the opportunity to obtain a dual degree from AUK and ASU while studying in Ukraine, providing an education that meets the realities of the modern world.

Thank you to all participants for the active dialogue, new ideas, and inspiration. Ahead lies a new chapter in the development of psychology in Ukraine. We are excited to begin this journey together!
