Software Engineering in the Age of AI: Event Recap at American University Kyiv

Software Engineering in the Age of AI: Event Recap at American University Kyiv - auk.edu.ua

It was a pleasure to host Software Engineering in the Age of AI at American University Kyiv and bring together industry experts, students, and alumni to discuss how AI is reshaping software engineering.

As legendary Kent Beck noted in one of his recent interviews, we are not yet ready for a new software engineering playbook – we still need more experiments. This is exactly what makes events like this valuable: the opportunity to explore the questions our industry is still trying to answer, exchange real-world experiences, and reflect openly on what works and what does not.

Special thanks to Dmytro Ovcharenko for sharing his perspective on AI-ready software architecture and to Vyacheslav Koldovskyy for his insights into how AI is changing engineering practices and software development.

There was also an opportunity to present the Master of Software Engineering program with a concentration in AI & Software Architecture. This unique dual-degree program with Arizona State University prepares senior-level software engineers to design modern AI-enabled systems and lead engineering teams through AI transformation. The program is proudly taught by experienced industry practitioners: Dmytro Ovcharenko, Vyacheslav Koldovskyy, Viktor Turskyi, Jacek Leśkow, PhD, Oleksandr Yosypenko, Samuel P.N. Cook, Maryna Didkovska, and Tetyana Sviridova.

The event concluded with an outstanding panel featuring alumni – Vlad Saniuk, Nikita Skrypchenko, and Volodymyr Gleba. Hearing how they are already applying AI in the important and complex projects they work on sparked an engaging discussion and offered valuable insights into how AI is being implemented in real-world software engineering.

Thank you to everyone who joined. Conversations like these help the professional community learn faster, experiment more boldly, and move the industry forward.
