Last week, Jakarta (Indonesia) was hosting the fifth annual Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026, organized by the reputable Times Higher Education agency.

American University Kyiv (AUK) was represented on this prominent international stage by Oksana Ilienko, Head of the Academic Policy and Quality of Education Department. This large-scale forum has brought together over 5,000 leaders from higher education, government structures, business, and civil society across 120 countries with a shared goal—to accelerate transformations within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This year's GSDC 2026 focuses on addressing global challenges through the synergy of science, business strategies, and public policy. The event program encompasses key summits and interactive panels dedicated to climate finance, smart city management amid environmental crises, biodiversity conservation, and the implementation of ESG standards in higher education.

Special emphasis at the congress is placed on the role of universities as key drivers of sustainable change, which not only generate innovative research but also shape a new generation of conscious leaders.

AUK's participation in events under the auspices of Times Higher Education directly influences the university's integration into global educational rankings and positions us as a progressive European higher education institution that keeps its finger on the pulse of global trends.

The forum in Jakarta serves as a unique networking platform. It offers an opportunity to establish direct contacts with the world's leading universities, international foundations, and environmentally responsible businesses for future collaborative research and exchange programs.

The knowledge, innovative case studies, and sustainable development strategies discussed at the congress will become a valuable resource for AUK. This will enable the implementation of cutting-edge green technologies and social practices both into the educational process and into future reconstruction projects for Ukraine.
