Oleksandr Romanko is a guest lecturer at the American University of Kyiv.
Oleksandr is the founder of the Technology Leadership&AI educational program of the second (master's) higher education level.
O. Romanko received a Ph.D. degree in computer science from McMaster University.
O. Romanko's research interests focus on optimization algorithms, including financial portfolio optimization, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, as applied to financial and risk management.
Dr. Romanko has authored over 20 articles and book chapters on financial risk management, machine learning, analytics, and operations research.
With work experience as a senior research analyst and manager of quantitative research in the IBM Watson Financial Services division, O. Romanko is currently a leading researcher in the quantitative research department of financial risks at SS&C Technologies Canada and an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto. He cooperates with the Ukrainian Catholic University and the Kyiv School of Economics.
Oleksandr Romanko is the co-founder of Mitacs, a Canadian research internship program for Ukraine. This program has allowed more than 200 Ukrainian students to participate in research internship projects at Canadian universities.
From 2019 to 2020, Dr. Romanko was a senior policy advisor to Anna Novosad, Ukraine's Minister of Education and Science.
He is also a member of the board of directors of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Canada.
Oleksandr Romanko has received several industry awards, including the 2014 IBM Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement and the 2012 IBM Excellence Award for the IBM Risk Analytics Quantitative Research Group. He also holds several academic awards from INFORMS, the Canadian Operational Research Society, and Mitacs.
