AUK Talks with Thomas Venon, Executive Director of Centre for Development Finance Studies
How can finance drive economic development, attract investment, and support Ukraine’s recovery?
These important questions were at the center of a recent AUK Talks, where students had the opportunity to meet Thomas Venon, Executive Director of Centre for Development Finance Studies, Founding Partner at Eighteen East Capital, and an investment professional with more than 20 years of experience across global financial markets.

During the discussion, Thomas shared valuable insights into the role of development finance in emerging economies, the importance of mobilizing private capital, and the growing significance of local currency financing in reducing economic risks and fostering sustainable growth.
Particular attention was given to Ukraine’s economic future, including pathways for attracting investment, rebuilding the economy, and strengthening the country’s financial markets in the years ahead.
Beyond the macroeconomic perspective, students also explored career opportunities in development finance and gained practical advice on the skills, experience, and global mindset needed to build successful international careers at the intersection of finance, policy, and sustainable development.

We sincerely thank Thomas Venon for sharing his expertise and engaging in an open and inspiring conversation with our students!
At AUK, we remain committed to connecting students with global leaders and practitioners whose experience helps bridge academic learning with real-world impact.
