American University Kyiv (AUK) finishes the first part of “AUK Talks” which took place from April to June. We will relaunch this unique initiative in September.
AUK conducted 12 sessions with the highly prominent international military, political, and foreign policy experts who shared their views and predictions on the russia’s war against Ukraine.
We were happy to note that all AUK Talks speakers are firm in their support to Ukraine and belief in its victory. We would like to thank all participants for their time and dedication to Ukraine. Special thank you goes also to our AUK Director of the Master’s Program in Global Management Mark Voyger for inviting the speakers and moderating the sessions.
The last session “Is the West Ready to the Long Road to Ukraine’s Victory” became a great summary of the four month of war. General Philip Breedlove, Retired four-star general in the United States Air Force, former commander of U.S. European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) of NATO Allied Command Operations in his overview of the current situation stressed:
“It is the old American saying that there is bad and good news at the same time. The good news is that Ukraine defeated russia in the north and north-east and seriously damaged russian army for years to come. It shows to NATO and the rest of the world that Ukraine is a highly capable military force. Another good thing is that the West has shown support and solidarity.
The bad news is that russia learned that it cannot fight Ukraine in the military manner. And russia has taken the fight now to the Ukrainian civilian population. Its style of fighting is brutal and in many cases – criminal.
My greatest fear is that the West like it did in 2014 will fall to rewarding putin for his bad behavior. That is my greatest fear”.
