American University Kyiv has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with ProEnglish Theatre of Ukraine!
This partnership is not just about supporting and promoting theatre performances in Ukraine. It is much broader: it is about providing Ukrainian youth with theatre therapeutic educational practices, and about the power of creativity in wartime challenges.
AUK and ProEnglish Theatre of Ukraine together are targeted to grow a conscious, active generation of Ukrainians through new educational and cultural projects, to motivate them to be the voices of Ukraine and share the true stories about the war and Ukraine.
ProEnglish Theatre of Ukraine is an independent theatre in Kyiv that works exclusively in English. It creates performances, trainings, acting courses and artistic events aimed at youth and the English-speaking community. The theatre actively promotes Ukrainian culture abroad and uses creativity as a tool for dialogue with the world.
As Dan Rice, AUK President, outlined, “As a university where all teaching is conducted exclusively in English, we are incredibly interested in cooperating with the only English-speaking theater in Ukraine, because we can enrich each other with new ideas and create new projects for young people.”
Jake McGrew, Director of the Student Life Department at AUK, noted, “Our cooperation has shown how theater art and education can do a lot together for young people, for the city and the country. First of all, it can enhance creativity, which in our challenging times acts as a therapy for AUK students and for everyone who loves and supports art.”
Alex Borovenskiy, Artistic Director of ProEnglish Theatre of Ukraine, “We already work on further ideas to implement together. We have many plans and the fact that we conduct all our performances in English creates even more opportunities to speak on behalf of Ukraine abroad. We are glad that young people are joining our artistic mission – to bring the truth on Ukraine to the world.”
Together we create new meanings – for students, for the city, for Ukraine.
