Last week the students from AUK’s Global Management program participated in a keynote discussion with Ian Brzezinski, former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Europe and NATO Policy on the topic “The Future of US Support for Ukraine: The Impact of US Domestic Politics and the Biden Administration's Security and Defense Strategies”.

Ian Brzezinski is a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center on Strategy and Security and the Council’s Europe Center. He has over three decades of experience in U.S. national security matters having served in senior policy positions in the Department of Defense and the U.S. Congress.

Replying to the questions from AUK students on the US readiness to provide support to Ukraine in case the war continues to the next spring Mr. Brzezinski stressed:

The courage of Ukrainians, their battlefield successes have resonated and continue to resonate here in the United States. US commitment and public support of Ukraine is remarkably high. 80% of Americans support the level of assistance the USA provides to Ukraine. Public support to NATO skyrocketed to 81% which is the highest for the last 60 years. Three quarters of Americans support the idea of bringing Ukraine into NATO.

60% of Americans say that they are ready to pay an economic price to support Ukraine. They are ready to pay higher gas prices to make Ukraine survive.

If Ukrainians continue their defense, continue to follow rules of the law, be honest and transparent, that support will continue. As Americans understand if russia is allowed to walk away with stolen territories from Ukraine, we are going to end up with the war, way more dangerous for the world”.

We are highly thankful to Mr. Brzezinski for his fruitful discussion with AUK students, as well as to Mark Voyger, Program Director for the MSc in Global Management at AUK for organizing this meeting.
