The last AUK Talks on the topic “The bleak future of the russian economy and US chip wars with China” discussed the importance of chip manufacturing for the balancing military power in the world.
Our guest speaker Christopher Miller, Professor at the Fletcher School, Tufts University, Director of the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Eurasia Program and the author of the nearly released book “Chip War: The Fight for the World's Most Critical Technology" outlined:
“The war between Ukraine and russia has shown, investing in chips capabilities is central to military power today. Many of Ukraine’s successes and russian failures are due to Ukraine’s ability to deploy a sophistical hardware and complex software to military systems while russia has shown repeatedly that it struggles to both develop, to fill, restock and use a high-tech weapon systems. In the potential US-China conflict this dynamic will be even more present.
That is why the US is focusing on this issue. In the next decades there would be no more important question, but which country retains the leading chips production because that country is highly likely will have a lead in the military power too.”
We are highly thankful to Mr. Miller for presenting his highly insightful book, for sharing his views on impact of chips on the future of the world and well as Mark Voyger, Program Director for the MSc in Global Management at AUK for organizing this meeting.
