Dr. Hanna Shvindina, associate professor of American University Kyiv and CEO of Lifelong Learning Centre represented her vision on lifelong learning at the Regional Conference “Adult Learning and Education (ALE) as a Responsibility of Local Authorities” in Chișinău on 16–17 September 2025, organized by DVV International in cooperation with UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and Chișinău City Hall.
Dr. Hanna Shvindina, AUK professor and strategic expert, contributed to the conference as a recognized local specialist in strategy development within UNESCO’s ALE initiatives. Drawing on her competences in strategy and networking, Dr. Shvindina supported discussions on how local authorities can design sustainable adult learning frameworks and strengthen partnerships with international institutions.
The conference brought together 58 participants from Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, as well as international experts from Germany and Austria. Through plenary sessions, case studies, and interactive group work, participants explored how municipalities can embed adult learning more firmly into local development agendas.
One of the highlights was the sharing of Learning Cities experiences, including from Lviv (Ukraine), Chișinău (Moldova), and Dresden (Germany). On the second day, there was a workshop for the Ukrainian delegation in partnership with UNESCO’s Kyiv office, focusing on how Ukrainian cities can advance their ALE strategies and interface with the UNESCO / DVV structures. This continues the dialogue on why adult education matters and how to help it shine in today’s changing environment. Her participation reinforced AUK’s commitment to advancing lifelong learning and fostering dialogue between academia, municipalities, and civil society to build inclusive Learning Cities in Ukraine and the wider region.
