Recently the Master’s from the AUK Global Management program participated in an online discussion with one of the highest ranking military leaders at NATO - General Christian Badia (German Air Force), the NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (D-SACT) on the topic: "NATO's Adaptation to the Security Challenges of the 21st century". General Badia joined Allied Command Transformation earlier this year following his service as Director General for Planning at the Federal Ministry of Defence in Bonn, Germany.
While talking about the current war and further threats General Badia outlined that it is always a process requiring 360° activities including intelligence, as well as cyber space monitoring and operations. He also stressed:
“If you look at our main competitors – russia and China during the last 20 years, we have to acknowledge that they have been able to narrow the gap in capabilities. They used this time quite effectively to come forward with the new technologies. Also, there is one thing which you have to keep in the back of our minds: if you are coming from the Western, free and democratic world, you have a lot of moral and ethical aspects which your competitors might not have, especially in cyber space. All these differences should be taken into consideration as we plan to keep our advantages.
When I talk to Ukrainian officers, they say that Western military technologies are superior. We have to work hard to maintain this superiority”.
We are highly thankful to the General Badia for highly informative meeting and AUK Director of Global Management program – Mark Voyger for organizing this meeting.
