Shortly before the new year, the AUK campus in Kyiv hosted the launch of the AUK AI Café — a new format for open and meaningful conversations about artificial intelligence, where complex things become understandable through dialogue. This initiative was launched within the AI Research Center at American University Kyiv.

The first meeting brought together representatives of the academic community, the state, and industry, continuing the tradition of the Scottish Café in Lviv, which in the 1930s became a favorite meeting place for representatives of the Lviv School of Mathematics. AUK AI Café will operate in the context of modern AI and real-world challenges.

Key speakers of the evening included:

  • Jacek Leśkow, PhD, Rector of American University Kyiv, who discussed the historical roots of mathematical discussions in the Scottish Café and how this format fosters deep thinking and meaningful intellectual exchange in today’s AI-driven world.
  • Dmytro Ovcharenko, AI CTO of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, who shared insights from real-world GovTech AI projects, focusing on AI reference architectures, RAG and FTI pipelines, as well as the challenges of security, infrastructure, and data sovereignty.
  • Sergiy Tytenko, PhD, Deputy Dean of the EPAM School of Digital Technologies and Head of the AI Research Center at AUK, who spoke about semantic graphs, LLMs, and next-generation EdTech, and presented KnowledgeMaps AI — an AI-driven approach to knowledge representation that moves beyond text toward structured, explainable, and navigable learning models, helping students reach deeper insights faster.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and made this discussion vibrant, meaningful, and important!

The AUK AI Café will continue to serve as a platform for focused discussions on practical applications of LLMs in real-world systems, including GovTech and production-scale AI projects.

Here’s to our next meetings!
