On the eve of International Student Day, the Students Expert Council of Higher Education Institutions(SEC) initiated a meeting with the President of Ukraine. At the event, representatives of the SEC spoke on behalf of all students of Ukraine and proposed to create a National Student Council, which must include all student self-government bodies of the country.
We strongly condemn the actions of this organization, which contradict the principles of student self-government autonomy. We are convinced that the SEC, as a governmental institution, has no right to speak on behalf of students in Ukraine, including AUK students.
Joining those student governments that have already expressed their position on this issue, we call on other student governments to recognize the illegality of such initiatives, boycott the activities of the SEC, and refrain from supporting such centralized and undemocratic ideas in order to preserve the independence of student representation.
