On October 4-5, 2025, Viktor Putrenko, a professor at the EPAM School of Digital Technologies at AUK, acted as a mentor during the international hackathon, the NASA Space Apps Challenge.
This is an annual event that takes place in Kyiv at the National University "Kyiv Aviation Institute" under the auspices of the NASA Science Mission Directorate. NASA Space Apps aims to promote transparency, participation and global cooperation within the framework of the U.S. Open Government Initiative by sharing publicly available data provided by NASA and its partners from the Space Agency.
This year, 37 teams representing students from Ukrainian universities took part in the hackathon and competed in 18 areas, including Earth exploration from space, exoplanet search, space biology and the application of artificial intelligence in space exploration. The four winning teams of the Ukrainian selection will continue the competition for victory at the global event.
Viktor Putrenko highly appreciated the level of preparation of the teams in this year's selection, the technical level and subject knowledge of the participants. AUK students also joined the hackathon, but as part of other teams.
We hope that next year our students will be able to present an independent AUK team to participate in this prestigious event!
