At AUK its students, team, partners and friends had a meeting with Professor Alan Riley, Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Natolin; a Member of the Advisory Committee of the Energy Community, Vienna and a Senior Fellow of Atlantic Council, Washington DC.
During the AUK Talks “Gazprom Leverage-Lessons from a European Energy Failure. How do we Build a Robust Energy Future that Works for All Countries in the Enlarged EU”, professor Riley outlined:
“One of the lessons of the energy crisis is to beware the danger of creating new energy dependencies. The second is that larger energy markets enhance resilience and reinforce supply security. As an example, the EU was able to turn around (at some expense) speedily and use its multiple access points for LNG and pipeline gas to replace Russian gas almost overnight. Ukraine as an EU Member State would significantly add to European supply security. Ukrainian gas storage would become a major pillar of EU supply security, its pipeline network would be able to route gas to several fellow EU member states.”
We appreciate Professor Alan Riley’s insightful talk and kind visit to AUK Campus, as well as Mark Voyger, AUK Director of Global Management program, for organizing such a powerful discussion.
